1 Hour Late For Church…

March 7, 2012

Holy shift Batman!
Have you ever tried to tail a car? I don’t mean in an entirely creepy way, just like you’re following someone to a place you’ve never been. How does it feel when they go through a yellow light, and you’re stuck behind, or make a turn you’re not sure you can make, or when they shift the plan and make a pit-stop that doesn’t make any sense at all in your mind?
As we continue in Lenten reflections I’d love to lead us in some thoughts on the disciples as they journey with Jesus as He does some difficult shifting to follow. We’ll chat about identity, temptation, Satan and what that means for those who  follow. This is some stuff I’ve been chewing on for a while, so I hope that we can have some authenticity around this together.
Speaking of shift hitting the fan – let’s not forget about the time shift this weekend. This weekend is my favourite time of the year. I am a morning person, and I have a four-year old who wakes up early every day with lots of energy. I love watching people show up precisely 1 hour late to church (or 1 hour and 15 or 20 minutes depending on their usual habits). It’s that look of awkward awareness that I love so much. Maybe I’ll get to see it this weekend, and with our current set-up, share the wonder of it all with you who make it on time! Be advised, relying on your cell phone to automatically change time may not be a good idea. I’ve seen that go horribly wrong.
See you Sunday!
