Oct. 13 Gathering

October 10, 2013
Hello People of The Table…and a Happy Thanksgiving to you all!  Yep…Thanksgiving already. I wonder sometimes if Thanksgiving is sort of like “mini-christmas” in our culture, in the sense that it comes laden with expectations and sentiment about family gatherings and warm fuzzy feelings and the death of a lot of turkeys. That can all feel lovely to those whose expectations are met, but for those that have to live with unmet expectations it can all feel like a huge let down.
This Sunday Trevor will be speaking to our community about a story that lands right in the middle of these sorts of feelings. He explains it this way:

“Our lives our made of stories. These stories comprise our identity and our view of the world. Much of the time we feel like we are at the end of the story even though we are not at the end of our lives and it is often from this vantage point that we can feel robbed of the perfect ending we thought we were bound to receive, or even of a decent ending. Sometimes, in the midst of our stories, they can seem out right disastrous. The trajectories of our lives are impossible to gauge from our present contexts and yet we crave internally to know that our train-wreck types of stories are going to lead to something, that they can be redeemed, that beauty can emerge from their wreckage.

Genesis 38 has one such story that I often wonder about, with regards to the main characters feelings about their place in a disaster. Did they question their stories trajectory and the seeming absurdity of it all? On Sunday, we’ll look to unpack the story of Judah and Tamar through the lens of the unfinished story.

Thanks.  Trevor”

So gather up your own unfinished stories and come to 318 Ross (The Frame Arts Warehouse) at 10:30 on Sunday morning, ready to explore.

Peace,

Tim Plett
