October 6 Gathering
Sometimes you meet people that seem to have a depth to them , a kind of resonance with something so profoundly good, that it stirs up a feeling like awe. One of Tirian and Tayah gymnastics coaches strikes me in this way.
This evening I had a conversation with this coach that, if it had been a cartoon, would have had a little “zzzzzt” of whatever that is in it. We were talking about a change in Tirian’s activities that will take him away from this club and coach and into something else, and the coach looked me directly in the eyes and affirmed who my son is in a way that was insightful, kind and powerful…in a way that suggested that she hadn’t just coached him, she knew him.
I was so moved that it was all I could do to not get choked up.
When we have those sorts of experiences, we are in what the Celts called “a thin place” – a moment, an experience, that gives us a little better glimpse than usual of the deep-down way that the goodness of God is everywhere present, always.
This week, having promised to step away from the realm of quantum into the realm of relationships, I am looking forward to exploring a bit more of just what is going on in moments like that one. Tell your phone to get you up so we can gather at 10:30 at The Frame Arts Warehouse, 318 Ross. I’ll see you there.
Peace,
Tim
