This (Frozen) Sunday at The Table
I know I chose to live here (came but for friendship, stayed for love…), but it has been a longish stretch of deep-freeze cold. Conversations about the weather these days seem to be almost uniformly negative, and with the exception of my mechanic I haven’t met very many folks that are loving this. And, as far as I can tell from the forecast, the situation isn’t supposed to improve much by Sunday.
So let me give you a reason to get out of your cozy bed to face the winter. This Sunday at The Table, you get to bless someone. I don’t mean this in some vague, horoscope-ish sort of way (“Today, you will meet a likeable stranger….”), but in a deliberate, “we have a plan” way.
This Sunday, the center piece of our gathering will be the Blessing of Atticus. If you don’t know who or what that is, add that to the list of reasons why you should show up. If you have never been part of blessing a child and his/her parents before, this is your chance. Also, I promise to reference a biblical story that I am quite confident you will NOT have heard used at a dedication or baptism service before. If you have, I’ll pay for your coffee…
Today, that’s my best shot at getting your warm nose out into the briskness of a mid-winter morning.
Other Matters:
- A reminder to mark your calendar for our next Souper Sunday on February 23rd, and to let us know what you will be bringing
- Also a reminder that there are a few things we need around the place:
- Heartier vacuum
- Commercial dust mop (like the one your school janitor used to clean the hallways)
- Some drip mats for putting snowy boots on
- Coat rack and hangers (Note: rack first, then hangers…it’ll be a mess otherwise)
See you on Sunday!
