Wow! (Or, This Week At The Table)
Hello Tablers.
Earlier this week I had another one of those conversations that reminded me of just how hard it can be to see past our pre-conceived or learned notions of who God is and where signs pointing to such a Being might be found. In my experience, it is hard work to learn a different way of thinking, of seeing…to begin to get a sense of just how pervasive the astounding presence of God might actually be.
In our exploration of what writer Anne Lamott calls the three essential prayers (Help, Thanks, Wow), we come this week to Wow. “Wow”, she writes, “means we are not dulled to wonder.” This week I invite you to a shared reflection (meaning – I would like us to hear from one another) on what it is that provokes a sense of wonder in us, and what sorts of things blunt that same sense.
I know that our community is full of rich insight and wisdom, and I look forward to mining that together with all of you. As is our custom, we will meet at 496 Notre Dame (second floor of Independent Jewellers) at 10:30 a.m. in a space that came to us as a gift – something that is, in itself, an occasion to stop and say “Wow!”
Some housekeeping matters:
-our next Souper Sunday is scheduled for February 23rd ; we’ll get more info in our Community Time
-there are a few things we still need to equip our space; a commercial dust mop, some drip mats to hold snowy outside boots, a coat rack and hangers, a more robust and effective vaccum. We will be putting up an actual written list at The Table soon, but just in case anyone feels inspired…
I’ll see you on Sunday…
Peace,
Tim
